The SU Labs business, which is run by renowned entrepreneur Pascal Finette, is an accelerator program designed specifically for startups tackling humanity’s grand challenges leveraging exponential technology. By bringing together the best that Singularity University has to offer, combined with unparalleled access to global Fortune 500 companies, startups join an 8 week on-campus program to prepare companies to scale and impact. They also get $100,000 in seed capital.

Chris Persson, General Partner at RECAPEX, is part of the mentoring team, specifically helping these bright people with exponentional potential understand the art of sales and business development and commercial, long-term viable business plans. "On my last visit, I was yet again blown away by the energy, free thinking and total fokus on growth the Singularity team and their chosen startups portrays. Destilling these often grand ideas, to commercially viable businesses isn't easy, but to survive it is absolutely necessary to find the balance between changing the world and making money."

PLANDAY closes $14M series B funding.

NEW YORK — March 30, 2016 — Planday, the workforce management platform for shift-based businesses, and a RECAPEX portfolio company, today announces that it has raised a $14 million Series B round of funding. The round was led by new investors Idinvest, and also included Creandum, the lead investor in Planday’s Series A round, SEB Private Equity, and angel investor Arthur Kosten, co-founder of Booking.com.

In 2014, Planday raised a $3.75 million Series A round, from CREANDUM and RECAPEX and in 2015 received a further investment from angel investor Klaus Nyengaard. Since then, Planday has grown 100% year-over-year to over 100,000 end-users in 24 different countries, including the US, UK, Canada, Germany, Sweden, and Norway.

RECAPEX has played a key role at the early stages of the company's development and has played an active role in the Board. Chris Persson, General Partner at RECAPEX, who will step down as Board Member at Planday says: "In ID Invest, Planday has added a great partner to support further growth and we believe that the platform is laid for Planday to achieve a global, market leading position".

Planday will use the Series B funds to expand further into the US, strengthen its leadership in the European market, and develop integrations with other technologies that support shift-based businesses, including payroll providers, find and hire services, and Epos technologies.

Planday has many U.S. customers in the hospitality and retail industries, including Best Western, Fitness World, Anderson’s Custard, and a number of boutique restaurants, including Ellary’s Greens in New York.

“With a smartphone in everyone’s pockets, there’s a huge opportunity to create connections between employees and businesses that didn’t exist before. We want to help businesses move away from cumbersome, manual processes and into ways of working that make the interaction between hourly employees and their workplaces real-time and collaborative. That shift will fundamentally change the way employees find work and the way businesses operate,” said Christian Broendum, CEO at Planday.

Planday has grown into a team of more than 80 people in five international offices, and with this investment plans to grow rapidly in all their locations. Learn more about the product at planday.com

Born Global - visit to Silicon Valley

Born Global is an accelerator program for ambitious Swedish startups that aspire to go global. Selected startups are guided towards a verified and scalable business model. The program is run by Chalmers University of Technology and financed by Vinnova.

Earlier this year, the selected companies went to Silicon Valley and met investors, other founders and got some valueable feedback. Niklas Eklund, General Partner at RECAPEX, and mentor at Born Global think trips like these are golddust. "It's great to be reminded that competition is fierce outside the Swedish borders and that ideas/products can be easily replicated. Speed and a daring attitude is often overlooked, over product perfection or 100% happy customers."

A similar message was relaid during a meeting with 500Startups in San Fransisco:
"Swedish founders suck at pitching and storytelling. Suck at sales and marketing. And they are lazy." @marvinliao #500startups

The truth hurts.
