When we scout companies we smile when we see a strong tech driven CEO, a strong founding team with domain expertise and experience, with a proposition solving a problem or need in a sector, situation or context where significant financial resources are at stake. Adding a fearless attitude and a global mindset, then we are usually sold. When we met Nima Samimi and the Ztory team in early 2014, they ticked all these boxes.
Even if Nima and his team were young, they were already "old-timers" in their industry. They had started and sold a few businesses, they had done a number of pivots and they had relentlessly kept on chasing for the best way to please the customer and the end consumer.
The bet to save a declining magazine business from the forces of changed consumer behaviour was obviously a grand challenge. But if anyone would crack the code, we are willing to put our money behind Nima and his team.
